A semi-synthetic cannabinoid created by chemically acetylating the THC, adding an acetate group at the oxygen position of the molecule which is denoted by the O in its name. It does not occur naturally in cannabis plants in meaningful amounts and requires synthesis in a laboratory. Reported to have a delayed onset and stronger effects compared to standard THC. The DEA clarified in 2023 that due to the requirements for synthesis, that this compound does not qualify for protections under the 2018 Farm Bill. It does not have a well established safety profile and some researchers have flagged potential pulmonary risks associated with vaping this compound. Abbreviated THC-O
