Cannabis plants can be male or female which will affect their flowers. The female is the plant that produces the flowers or flowers rich in the many compounds we look for like cannabinoids and terpenes. Female plants are essential for cannabis production because their flowers contain the highest concentrations of trichomes, where cannabinoids and terpenes are found. Only unfertilized female plants, called sinsemilla, are used for cultivating cannabis for consumption, as they produce large, resinous flowers without seeds.
