The strong, durable fibers extracted from the stalk of the hemp plant (cannabis sativa). The bast fibers, found in the outer layer of the hemp stalk, are used to make textiles, ropes, paper, and other materials, while the hurd (the inner woody core) is used in construction materials and bioplastics.
