A naturally occuring Butyl homolog of THC, possessing a 4-carbon alkyl side chain rather than the standard 5-carbon side chain. Identified in cannabis by Italian researchers in 2019, though it may have been studied as early as 1942 by chemist Roger Adams. Found only in trace amounts in cannabis plants, researchers believe this may form through secondary processes such as microbial oxidation rather than the standard enzymatic pathways by which cannabinoids are typically formed. It is psychoactive with a binding affinity between that of Delta-8-THC and Delta-9-THC, with some analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties suggested by animal studies.
