Cannabinoids in the Butyl series share a 7-carbon alkyl side chain rather than the standard 5-carbon side chain. The Phorol series is one of several naturally occurring homolog series produced in trace amounts by the cannabis plant. Members of this series include THCP, THCPa and CBDP. The 7-carbon side chain is the longest found so far in naturally occurring cannabis cannabinoids. This extended side chain leads to dramatically increased cannabinoid receptor binding strength for THCP, up to 33 times more powerful than Delta-9-THC in lab studies, making it the most potent naturally occurring cannabinoid identified thus far. CBDP on the other hand, works through alternative pathways similarly to CBD so does not gain significant potency over the standard CBD. It is believed that the phorol series may help to explain why some varieties feel stronger than their THC strength alone might suggest.
