Abbreviation for Endocannabinoid System. First discovered in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, the ECS is a complex biological system, found in all mammals, including humans, that helps regulate almost every system in the body, affecting physiological processes such as mood, pain, appetite, immune response, and sleep. The ECS interacts with cannabinoids produced by the body (called endocannabinoids) as well as cannabinoids from external sources, like THC and CBD from cannabis.
